It’s becoming harder for Mary, a praised chapati- and mandazi-maker, to keep her business afloat and take care of her adult son, John, who has epilepsy. Rising wheat and oil prices caused by the war in Ukraine, climate change, and global recession have made it hard to make ends meet. Mary has been in the catering business for over 15 years, and she thought she'd seen the worst of times during the pandemic.
